Moles and lesions
Concerns about moles or lesions can be worrying, especially if you’ve noticed a change or have a family history of skin cancer.
As a recognised specialist in mole checks and skin cancer treatment, I provide careful assessment to offer reassurance where appropriate, fast treatment when needed, or ongoing monitoring.
Mole checks are carried out with care and close attention to detail. I assess your skin as a whole, from head to toe, rather than focusing on a single lesion. This allows every mole and lesion to be reviewed, allowing any that look unusual or need closer evaluation to be identified.
To support this assessment, a dermatoscope is used. This handheld device magnifies the skin and reduces surface light reflection, allowing a detailed view of deeper skin structures that aren’t visible to the naked eye. This improves diagnostic accuracy and supports early detection of skin cancer.
Clinical photographs may also be taken to help with accurate documentation and monitoring over time, making it easier to identify subtle changes.
For higher-risk patients, a referral to Leeds General Infirmary can be arranged for formal mole mapping and longer-term surveillance where appropriate.
How I approach mole assessment
It’s sensible to arrange a mole check if you have:
a new or changing mole
a mole that looks different from others
a personal or family history of melanoma
multiple or atypical moles
concerns you would like checked for reassurance
